Kabush continues to lead NMBS points series
Geoff Kabush came into the cross country undefeated with three straight wins on the NMBS circuit. After a tough day of racing in extreme heat, altitude, and dust, Geoff fought hard and finished second after getting caught up behind some slower traffic that allowed JHK to get out to a 40 second lead that would never be brought back. The second place finish has left Kabush with a commanding lead in the overall series. Mathieu put in a great ride to grab the eleventh spot in the XC and twelfth in ST.
On Sunday, Kabush came into the short track looking to gain some ground in the points standing, as were Wells, Wicks and Trebon. Ross Schnell and Todd Wells came out flying with Geoff sitting third wheel, but Ross’ crash on the second lap left Kabush sitting out front alone. He let Wicks join on so they could work together, but two laps later Wicks was falling off the pace leaving Geoff out front again. Geoff stayed out front and rode the legs off the rest of the field, resulting in all but twelve riders being pulled from the race due to being lapped. The victory was #14 for the all-time winningest male short track rider, and one of the most dominant displays of his career. At the finish, Kabush credited his tires and Litespeed full-suspension bike for the victory, but some other factors like his pink “Dopers Suck” socks and special guest appearance from umbrella girl extraordinaire (and wife) Keri Pink.
