Michellie Jones wins Ironman Hawaii
Oct. 22, 2006

(Kona, Hawaii) ? A decade after swearing she?d never race an Ironman-distance triathlon, Michellie Jones won the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon World Championship ? with help from her CatEye Micro Wireless computer and MSC-HR20 heart rate monitor.
In the 1990s Michellie Jones was the world?s most dominant female triathlete. At seven World Championships, she podiumed five times and won twice. While she ruled at the Olympic distance she swore she?d never race the Ironman, which is more than four times longer.
Jones, 37, knows that Ironman-distance triathlons are won by the well-trained, the patient and the smart. She emerged from the swim near the front, pulled a minute ahead on the bike and finished the run six minutes in front. All the while, she used her CatEye computers to optimize her effort for the extra-long event.
"It's an unbelievable feeling to think I said I would never do an Ironman,? Jone said, ?and now I'm able to walk away and say I'm an Ironman world champion ? it's pretty cool."
